About Us

Our Story

Mountain River Flower Patch is a charming little pick-your-own flower patch, set in picturesque Mountain River, which invites you to slow down, reconnect, and pick your own bouquet of flowers to take home.

We built our house here in 2019 and started planting flowers soon after. Matt has always loved gardening, and his passion for it got Alice interested too. As we planted more around our property, we decided to open our garden to the public to share the beauty with others.

Meet the Team

Matthew is the main gardener; his love for plants and gardening is what inspired us to start our flower patch. He does all the mowing and heavy lifting, and most of the planting and weeding.

Alice is the main planner, handling everything from garden layout to planting timelines, events in the flower patch, and social media content. She is also the assistant gardener, helping with planting and weeding.

We also have our 3 gardening apprentices/children who each have differing levels of interest and helpfulness when it comes to assisting us in the flower patch!

Our Philosophy

We know that caring for a garden starts by caring for the soil. We add layers of locally sourced organic materials to our flower beds and use the no-till method to preserve soil structure. Our healthy soil then produces healthy plants with abundant blooms, which in turn increases biodiversity.

We are committed to sustainability:

  • No chemicals: We manage pests and weeds by hand-weeding, mulching, and using organic pest repellents.
  • Composting: All green waste goes into our hot compost, which is added back to the beds.
  • Water wisdom: We focus on soil health to retain moisture and use water wisely.

What We Grow

We grow a variety of flowers chosen for their beauty and vase life. Depending on the season, you might find:

  • Dahlias (a focal point!)
  • Roses
  • Peonies
  • Sunflowers
  • Cosmos
  • Zinnias
  • Carnations
  • Sweet peas

The dahlias and the large rows of sunflowers are particular highlights, especially against the stunning mountain backdrop.
